Albania reach a major tournament for first time by qualifying for Euro 2016
Albania beat Armenia 3-0 on Sunday to confirm their participation in next summer’s European Championships in France.
It’s the first time they have every qualified for a major tournament. History has been made.
Managed by the Italian Gianni De Biasi, their victory means that Denmark drop into the play-offs.
After losing to Serbia, the pressure was on Albania to win in Armenia, but they were always in command after an early own goal from Hovhannisyan.
Djimsiti doubled their lead in the 25th minute and the party really got going when Sadiku added a third with 15 minutes to play.
With four wins, two draws and two defeats, only Portugal ended Group I with a more impressive record.
Not that it will bother Albania — they’re going to France.
